CFB Daily Plays 9/3

CFB Daily Plays

CFB Daily Plays

Welcome to the first edition of RotoMinds CFB Daily Plays. The College Football season kicks off tonight with a nice 9 game slate with some of the best CFB players in the country taking the field. We will be providing optimal lineups for FanDuel, DraftKings and Fantasy Aces. Weekday slates we will only play 1 optimal lineup and 1 GPP lineup on each site. Fantasy Aces is including 6 additional games that FanDuel and DraftKings are not. This is a very common theme in CFB, but this creates a nice edge for us with other content in the industry focused completely on DraftKings.

  • Brandon Doughty
  • Thomas Sirk
  • Trevone Boykin
  • Anu Solomon
  • Marquise Williams
  • Seth Russel (Fantasy Aces ONLY)

This initial 9 game slate is loaded with quality QB options which is rare for a weekday slate. Trevone Boykin is the preseason Heisman favorite so it’s safe to assume that his ownership level will be on par or above where it should be on this slate. TCU will want to set the tone early with a big game, but this really isn’t a great matchup for DFS purposes. I think the best way to describe this game is to say that it is in play because of the 9 game slate. If this were at 15-20 game slate we would have significantly less interest in this game. Minnesota plays at a significantly slower pace than TCU does, so look for Minnesota to run the clock as much as possible to slow the TCU offense. Boykin obviously has huge upside in the game as he could easily score 4 touchdowns… but I think he is better suited for tournaments where you handcuff with a WR on FanDuel and DraftKings. Fantasy Aces there is enough value to roster Boykin if you really want to play him. Thomas Sirk is easily the best value at QB tonight where he is priced like a lower tier RB or WR option as a starting QB. Sirk is a dual threat guy that can get it done with his arm and his legs. If you’re new to CFB you will quickly learn that dual threat QB’s are extremely valuable in DFS. The single biggest difference from NFL to CFB is the QB running game. Sirk is cash game (and tournament) playable tonight on FanDuel where it allows you to load up on the big upside RB/WR guys in prime spots. Brandon Doughty is our favorite target if we are paying up for a quarterback tonight (IF Allen and Dangerfield are playing). Doughty plays Vanderbilt tonight in a game where neither team has a very good defense. This game should be competitive and high scoring which is good news for Doughty who threw for almost 5,000 yards last season. Anu Solomon is one of the best tournament plays in this slate because of his price point that is kind of lost in a range that is unessecary in cash games. Solomon is just $600 cheaper than Boykin, $200 cheaper than Doughty and Williams and $4800 more than Sirk. Arizona is a very dangerous team that has a strong running and passing game. Something we saw a lot last year was huge games from Solomon in the passing game because they like to run little swing passes that go for big yardage that really inflate the passing stats. Solomon can also take off and run on his own occasionaly. If you’re using Solomon I highly recommend a team stack with Nick Wilson and Cayleb Jones.

*****Boykin will become the top target in cash if Dangerfield and or Allen are not starting for WKU*****

Running Backs

  • A.J. Ouellette
  • Leon Allen
  • Nick Wilson
  • Aaron Green
  • Elijhaa Penny
  • Devontae Booker

If you’re new to CFB you’ll also learn that small schools are your friend when it comes to DFS. A.J. Ouellette is a perfect example of that tonight in the Ohio vs Idaho game. Idaho has a pretty awful run defense that allowed nearly 250 rushing yards per game at nearly 6 yards per carry. Ouellette should have a great season for Ohio and it should start with a big 100+ yard night with the posibility of multiple touchdowns. Leon Allen and Nick Wilson are very close in our projection model and both have top overall play upside in these matchups. Leon Allen might be dealing with a possible suspension but we should have news before the game starts today so we will keep you updated on that. Obviously Wilson instantly becomes a little safer play but I have Allen a touch higher in the model so he will be a great tournament option today. Nick Wilson is a huge upside play tonight in what should be a big blowout where Arizona pours it on early and often. My guess is we get atleast 3 full quarters from Wilson before the starters sit but it could be more because Rich loves to run up the score on opponents and cover that spread! ┬áIf the game is out of hand at the end of 3 there is a high probability that Nick Wilson was the reason. Elijhaa Penny has a pretty nice price tag but this is a high variance play as most of his value comes from punching the ball in the endzone in a goal line or short yardage situation. We aren’t expecting a 100+ yard rushing perforamnce from Penny.

Wide Receivers

  • Pharoh Cooper
  • Nelson Spruce (Fantasy Aces ONLY)
  • Cayleb Jones
  • Brandon Shepard
  • Dezmon Epps
  • Mack Hollins
  • Antwane Grant

Pharoh Cooper is the top play at WR if salary cap isn’t an issue. Cooper is likely the safest source of fantasy points at WR tonight against a very weak UNC defense. Cooper is just a play maker… he should see a few carries tonight in addition to heavy targets in the passing game. The one true knock on Coooper tonight is the inexperienced QB he is working with but I think it’s a pretty minor concern. Nelson Spruce is only available on Fantasy Aces where he is a very strong play and the top projected WR play on that site. If you played CFB with us last year you know we love Nelson Spruce and the upside he possesses. With Spruce not available on the other larger sites it makes him an even stronger play on Aces where he might go under owned due to other content focusing soley on FD/DK. Cayleb Jones is one of my favorite plays tonight but I will admit there is a little risk here in a high variance player in a projected blowout. Jones was a big offensive weapon for Arizona last year as Solomons favorite long target and he should be more involved this season as a returning starter. A multiple touchdown game with 150-200 yards receiving is definitely a real possibility in this matchup. Jones should benefit from all the attention Nick Wilson will draw from the UTSA defense. Dezmon Epps is just underpriced everywhere because he was suspended last season so the pricing algorithms are using empty stats. Epps plays in an offense that averaged nearly 40 passing attempts per game which is near the top in the entire country and I expect that number to stay the same or increase early this season. Epps is basically a must play tonight if you’re playing multiple lineups… you need some exposure at this price point.

Tight Ends

  • Jonnu Smith
  • Joel Ruiz (Fantasy Aces ONLY)
  • Jake Butt
  • Braxton Deaver
  • Steven Scheu
  • Tyler Higbee

DraftKings has done us all a favor and dropped the tight end position this season in favor of a flex spot. FanDuel and Fantasy Aces are still requiring a tight end so we will cover the position. This 9 game slate actually has a few viable options at tight end. One of them is so good that we recommend using him in a flex spot on DraftKings tonight. Jonnu Smith is easily the top play at TE. Smith sees targets like a mid-upper level WR would with a price tag like a minimum price position player. Smith is another must have exposure tonight. Joel Ruiz is a nice tournament play on Fantasy Aces where he should go underowned due to his unavailability on the other sites. Jake Butt offers a little savings to Smith and has the ability to grab 3-5 catches and maybe land in the endzone. As the season progresses you will learn that tight ends aren’t very involved in fantasy scoring in the college game. Any of the guys on the list here are fine plays tonight with Jonnu Smith being the clear cut top play.
