CFB Week 1 Plays

CFB Daily Plays

This first write-up will focus on the first slate of the day which is the “main” slate on FanDuel.

Quarterbacks

  • Joshua Dobbs
  • Taysom Hill
  • Dane Evans
  • Jaquez Johnson
  • Jeremy Johnson

Taysom Hill actually ranks just ahead of Joshua Dobbs in our projection model. The matchup for Taysom Hill is much more difficult than the matchup for Dobbs so we prefer Dobbs as the top play in cash games. Dobbs is another dual threat QB that can get it done on the ground and through the air. Tennesse has an implied team total over 40 and Dobbs should be involved in scoring 80% of those points. Taysom Hill is a very fun DFS player when the season settles in and the Cougars play non power conference schools. Hill could easily get you the 100 yard rush bonus and approach the 300 yard passing bonus on DK in a weaker matchup. Dane Evans (and Tulsa in general) will be a fun play in DFS this year with Tulsa having a new head coach who is moving over from his offensive coordinator role with the Baylor Bears. Keevan Lucas is the clear cut WR play so we obviously will be looking to handcuff Evans and Lucas in all formats. Jaquez Johnson has a very nice price tag for his upside on DraftKings, making him a fine play in both cash games and tournaments on DK.

Running Backs

  • Nick Chubb
  • Alex Collins
  • Paul Perkins
  • Jalen Hurd
  • Terell Newby – Great value play now that he is starting.
  • Justin Jackson

Nick Chubb ranks as the top play in the model but he will likely slide into a GPP only category tomorrow given the game/team scriprt for Georgia this season and the 35+ point spread in this game. Alex Collins is a very strong play in all formats now that the timeshare situation has been eliminated with Jonathan Williams OUT with an injury. Collins should have as many carries as he can handle today and the SEC offensive line should provide plenty of holes for him to run wild. Terrell Newby is better suited for DraftKings where we can play him in a flex spot.

Wide Receivers

  • Keevan Lucas
  • Zach Pascal
  • Jordan Payton
  • Mitch Mathews

Keevan Lucas is the clear cut top play at WR in the “main” slate. Lucas was heavily targeted last season and now he has Baylo’s fomer OC as his head coach. Lucas is basically a must play on DraftKings where he isn’t priced like he is the best player in the slate. If you played CFB last year you might be familiar with Zach Pascal…. Pascal is another quality WR that we have targeted in the past because of his upside in matchups like this one. Jordan Payton and UCLA will look a little diferent this year as they play without Brett Hundley. Mitch Mathews ranks very well in the model (similar to Tayson Hill) but the matchup with Nebraska is far from ideal so he is better suited for tournaments where you can handcuff him with Tayson Hill.

Tight Ends

  • Hunter Henley
  • Austin Hooper
  • Dan Vitale

If you’re playing on FaDuel it’s time to accpet the fact that the catcher spot really sucks in CFB. Austin Hooper is the top play at tight end and the only one in the group that should see 8-10 targets. Hunter Henley is easily the best value play on sites that require the use of a TE position.
