CFB Week 3 Early
- Baker Mayfield
- Thomas Sirk
- Cardale Jones
- Wes Lunt
- Brandon Doughty
Baker Mayfield ranks as the #1 QB in projection for the early slate in week 3. Mayfield has a dreamy matchup with a Tulsa team that is overmatched in every possible way against this Sooners team. Mayfield SHOULD cruise to 4 touchdowns and a good yardage total against Tulsa. The only real risk for Mayfield is Perine getting all of the touchdowns but I don’t think it’s a major concern due to the nature of the college game.
Thomas Sirk is a site specific play on DraftKings this week where we get to use 2 QB’s. Duke plays Northwestern this week so we should expect a slower pace which will rob a little value from Sirk but the price is right on DraftKings for cash games.
Wes Lunt is a fun tournament or contrarian cash play on FanDuel where he is available at a decent discount to the top tier players at the position. The game script is nice here where Lunt should be playing from behind where he will be forced to throw often playing catch up. Lunt has played in the system long enough that he is comfortable under center. Lunt should be used in large field tournaments and handcuffed with a WR.
Brandon Doughty has a high price tag but he has a ton of upside against a very questionable Indiana defense. Doughty is dealing with a lot of injured teammates on the offensive side of the ball but he is an experienced player who should be throwing all day in what vegas has marked as one of the most competitive games of the day in CFB.
- Jahad Thomas
- Leonard Fournette
- D’Andre Ferby
- Jordan Howard
- Joseph Yearby
Jahad Thomas – Many of you hadn’t heard of Jahad Thomas until last Saturday when he had a monster game and made all of us a good chunk of change. A quick glance at the game log and it’s easy to see why he is the top play… Thomas is going to carry the ball 25-30 times per game and return kicks… can’t ask for much more from a guy who is less than $8k when he is averaging 6 yards per carry with that high usage rate.
Leonard Fournette – Fournette is another guy we have targetted heavily and will continue to do so early in the season. Fournette is the real deal and a legit Hiesman candidate if he can stay healthy. The usage is going to increase dramatically this season as we are projecting 25+ carries again this week against Auburn. If you’re into vegas player props you will want to checkout the TD prop on Fournette this week at -400…. That is just a ridiculous line. Solid play in all formats.
D’Andre Ferby – It’s a shame we can’t use 3 running backs on FanDuel… Thomas, Fournette and Ferby and move on… it would make life much easier. Ferby is filling in for Leon Allen who is out for the season after last weeks injury. Ferby has basically had this job handed to him where he will see 15-20 carries and also be used out of the backfield where he can do a lot of damage in this matchup in week 3. The price won’t be this low after this week as a starter so make sure you have some exposure here to cash in this week.
Jordan Howard – Howard is the guy who is going to get left behind this week when it comes to ownership because all three of the guys listed above are stronger plays on paper. Howard has huge upside with his new team at Indiana. The price tag is in a range where we are going to get reduced ownership levels this week in tournaments. Yay!
- Tajae Sharpe
- Sterling Shepard
- Keevan Lucas
- Ricky Jones
- Mose Frazier – Not available on all sites
Tajae Sharpe – Sharpe is another guy that I’m sure most of you were like “What are you doing Mike!?!?” Sharpe is a target monster playing on a pretty weak team that will find itself playing from behind and throwing often. Sharpe had 11 catches last week for 138 yards but failed to find the endzone against Colorado. This week UMASS is at home against Temple where they will once again be throwing often and Sharpe will be the clear cut number 1 option. Sharpe had many 10+ catch games last year so there is a strong history of double digit receptions.
Sterling Shepard – Shepard and the Sooners have a great matchup against Tulsa this week where Shepard should have no problem getting open for Baker Mayfield to find him in the endzone. Shepard is a great play in all formats but generally we prefer to spend at RB in this early slate because the game script could rob Shepard of scoring opportunities late in the game.
Keevan Lucas – Lucas and Evans have a tough task this week against the Sooners defense. The price has definitely been adjusted for this matchup but I’m still not quite as excited about Lucas and Tulsa this week…. there is just a big difference when you move to a Big 12 defense.
- Tyler Higbee
- Jake Butt
- Josiah Price
- Ryan Malleck
Tyler Higbee – Higbee is easily the top play at tight end in the early slate where he is leading his team in targets from the tight end position. The matchup with Indiana is a dreamy one this week so look for Brandon Daughty to try to connect with Higbee early and often.
Ryan Malleck – Malleck is the best pure punt play at TE who has touchdown upside where he can and will be targetted in the red zone if the game script allows for it. Punting the tight end at 2,000 on FanDuel really opens up the rest of the roster for the core players we want exposure to. I suggest paying for Higbee or punting with Malleck.
