Friday DFS MLB Plays

Welcome to Friday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. Back to a full slate with a Coors Field series tonight. The Marlins and Rockies will be popular in the the write-up today and you should assume pretty much all players from both teams are in play tonight.

Pitching Rankings

  1. Jake Odorizzi
  2. Carlos Martinez
  3. Edinson Volquez
  4. Tyson Ross
  5. Tsuyoshi Wada
  6. Tanner Roark
  7. Brett Anderson

Pitching is relatively weak tonight for a full slate and Jake Odorizzi is the top play on the road at Seattle. Edinson Volquez has the highest win probability of any pitcher playing tonight. The Rangers had a late finish last night with overnight travel for tonight’s game in KC. The negative park shift and watered down Rangers lineup is appealing tonight. Carlos Martinez is another “top play” tonight despite facing a Dodgers team that ranks near the top of the league against RHP. Also consider Tyson Ross and Wada who both have big strikeout upside.

Catcher Rankings

  • Buster Posey
  • Russell Martin/Dioner Navarro
  • Jason Castro
  • Rockies catchers
  • Mets catchers

Buster Posey is the top play at catcher tonight if we aren’t factoring in price. Posey gets a nice positive park shift on the road against the Phillies. Jerome Williams is below league average against both left and right handed batters. Russell Martin and Navarro are next in line for the Blue Jays tonight against Roberto Hernandez.

1st Base Rankings

  • Paul Goldschmidt
  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Justin Bour
  • Brandon Belt
  • Lucas Duda

Paul Goldschmidt is the top play at 1B tonight and the #1 overall hitter in RotoMinds adjusted wOBA tonight at home against a LHP. Goldy is really an elite hitter against all pitching this season but he is most respected for his elite numbers against southpaws. Chase Field is the 2nd best park to hit in tonight and the conditions are prime for power bats like Goldy. Miguel Cabrera is always in play and makes a great tournament play tonight against a lefty in a hitters park. Justin Bour ranks extremely well due to the extreme park shift for the Marlins tonight at Coors Field. Bour has shown big time power this season and has a great spot in the lineup. Brandon Belt is a guy we love in tournaments tonight with a nice positive park shift that we think will be highly UNDER owned.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Dee Gordon
  • Neil Walker
  • Daniel Murphy
  • Aaron Hill
  • Donavan Solano

Dee Gordon is easily the top play at 2B who offers a ton of upside at Coors Field with his speed on the bases. If you have the cap space you need to make sure you have exposure to Dee Gordon tonight. Also consider Daniel Murphy if he is in the lineup tonight as we look to take advantage of the large park shift for the Mets tonight. Solano is a fine punt play if he is in the lineup tonight for the Marlins. Focus hard on the park shift here.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Evan Longoria
  • Martin Prado
  • Anthony Rendon
  • Matt Carpenter
  • Luis Valbuena

Evan Longoria earns the top spot tonight against yet another LHP. This is relying heavily on Longoria’s career numbers against Southpaws. I’m fine with Longo in all formats tonight and he is definitely someone I want exposure to in tournaments if you’re playing 10+ teams. Martin Prado is next in line in a huge park shift at Coors. Also consider Matt Carpenter once again tonight.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Troy Tulowtizki
  • Jhonny Peralta
  • Jose Reyes
  • Wilmer Flores
  • Brandon Crawford
  • Nick Ahmed

Troy Tulowitzki is once again the obvious top play at short stop tonight in a home game at Coors Field. You know the drill by now…. if you have the cap space you can play Tulo with confidence in all formats. Other plays to consider tonight: Jhonny Peralta, Jose Reyes and Wilmer Flores in the cash games. I also really like the power upside of both Brandon Crawford and Nick Ahmed in tournaments tonight.

Outfield Rankings

Giancarlo Stanton¬†is the #1 OF play and the #2 overall hitter in the model tonight thanks to the massive park shift/low air density at Coors Field. If you’re still playing DFS as this point in the season you’re probably familiar with the upside Stanton has… you’re also familiar with Coors Field…. just play him.

Outfield Tier 1:

Mike Trout, Christian Yelich, Michael Cuddyer, Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez, Jose Bautista

Outfield Tier 2:

A.J. Pollock, Marcell Ozuna, Colby Rasmus, Angel Pagan, Curtis Granderson, Preston Tucker, Avasial Garcia

Mike’s Top Four Team Stacks

Marlins – Stanton, Gordon, Prado, Yelich, Bour, Ozuna

Rockies – Tulowitzki, Blackmon, Gonzalez, Rosario

Diamondbacks – Goldschmidt, Pollock, Tomas, Hill, Ahmed

Giants – Posey, Belt, Crawford, Pagan

Royals – Hosmer, Moustakas, Morales, Gordon, Cain

White Sox РEaton, Cabrera, Abreu,  Garcia

Blue Jays – Bautista, Donaldson, Reyes, Martin, Navarro

Mets – Granderson, Cuddyer, Flores, Murphy

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
