Friday DFS MLB Plays

DFS MLB Plays

Welcome to Friday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. Tonight we have a huge 14 game slate with what seems like 100 quality starting pitchers throwing tonight. Why can’t we just have 1-2 each day instead of everyone throwing the same day?

Pitching Rankings

  1. Clayton Kershaw
  2. Felix Hernandez
  3. Madison Bumgarner
  4. Michael Pineda
  5. David Price
  6. Danny Salazar
  7. Jesse Chavez
  8. Yordano Ventura
  9. Bartolo Colon
  10. Jose Urena – GPP Play

When we have this many aces on the mound we really don’t need much of a write up because its pretty obvious which pitchers we will be targeting in cash games tonight. Clayton Kershaw is easily the top play against the Padres at PETCO park. Kershaw has struggled at times this year but he is still the best pitcher in the game in a prime spot tonight against the Padres. The Dodgers should provide the run support needed to pick up the win and Kershaw’s 11 K/9 rate should provide plenty of upside. Felix Hernandez has a decent matchup with the Astros who strikeout a lot but the negative park shift isn’t ideal for King Felix. I’m okay with Felix in cash games if you really don’t trust Kershaw. David Price has the toughest park to pitch in tonight of the top tier pitchers so he will be a GPP only play for us tonight against the Indians. Madison Bumgarner has a decent matchup with the D-Backs tonight at AT&T.

Catcher Rankings

  • Francisco Cervelli
  • Russell Martin
  • Buster Posey
  • Carlos Ruiz
  • Wilson Ramos

Catcher is relatively weak tonight with Francisco Cervelli grabbing the top spot in RotoMinds adjusted wOBA thanks to the great team matchup for the Pirates tonight. Cervelli has a .392 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA tonight. Also consider Russell Martin (decent matchup with power upside) Buster Posey and Wilson Ramos.

1st Base Rankings

  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Pedro Alvarez
  • Adam Lind
  • David Ortiz
  • Justin Bour
  • Edwin Encarnacion

Another night with a ton of 1B options… Miguel Cabrera earns the top spot and is a top 3 overall hitter tonight against the fly ball pitcher Danny Salazar. Miggy has as much upside as any player tonight and I like his chances at reaching base a few times. Miggy has a .436 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA against Salazar tonight. Pedro Alvarez is next in line… the Pirates are a common theme here on Friday against Kevin Correia. Alvarez has dual positional eligibility on DraftKings so make sure you’re taking advantage of this when building your tournament lineups. David Ortiz came through for us in a big way last night and has another nice matchup tonight at home against Drew Hutchison. Justin Bour has nice tournament upside despite the poor park.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Neil Walker
  • Brian Dozier
  • Rickie Weeks
  • Logan Forsythe

Neil Walker is the top play at 2B in our model tonight. Walker is hitting 4th tonight in a great lineup. You know the drill by now…. Walker against a RHP is always in play because FD refuses to move his price tag for some reason. Brian Dozier is next in line despite the negative park shift and wind blowing in tonight at Texas. Dozier crushes LHP and has a great lineup spot (usually leading off). Logan Forsythe is a great play as part of your Rays mini stacks tonight.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Evan Longoria
  • Josh Harrison
  • Alex Rodriguez
  • Matt Carpenter
  • Josh Donaldson

Evan Longoria earns the top spot in the RotoMinds model against John Danks. I know the park shift is great for Danks but I’m still not buying his success this year. Do yourself a favor and grab a piece of the Rays tonight and cash in when regression bites Danks in the ass! Love the Rays in tournaments tonight. Josh Harrison is next in line and has a nice matchup and lineup spot (5th) tonight for the Pirates. Alex Rodriguez is always in play at his price point…. Also consider Matt Carpenter and Josh Donaldson who both have big upside in tournaments with low projected ownership levels tonight.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Troy Tulowitzki
  • Jake Elmore
  • Jung-Ho Kang
  • Jordy Mercer
  • Marcus Semien

Tulo is once again the top play at SS even in a huge negative park shift. Tulo is definitely a GPP only play tonight and really anytime he is playing outside of Coors Field. SS is pretty weak tonight now that Kang is OUT for the Pirates. Mercer is next in line but the lineup spot isn’t ideal. SS will likely be a punt spot tonight on a team with a good game script.

Outfield Rankings

Andrew McCutchen, Nelson Cruz, Bryce Harper are the top OF plays tonight and all rank in the top 5 overall in the model tonight. McCutchen is one of many pirates at the top of the RotoMinds model tonight. McCutchen has a .433 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA tonight. All three of these guys are great plays in all formats tonight. Nelson Cruz is the best value of the bunch at just 3600 on FanDuel.

Outfield Tier 1:

Gregory Polanco, Mark Trumbo, Mike Trout, Jose Bautista, Starling Marte, Delino DeShields Jr., Denard Span, Joey Butler, Steven Souza, Giancarlo Stanton, Kyle Blanks

Outfield Tier 2:

Christian Yelich, Alex Rios, Michael Cuddyer, Joc Pederson, Jake Smolinski, Yasiel Puig, Ryan Raburn, Corey Dickerson, Torii Hunter

Mike’s Top Five Team Stacks

Pirates – Polanco, Walker, McCuthen, Alvarez, Marte, Kang

Rays – Butler, Longoria, Forsythe, Souza

Rangers – DeShields, Blanks, Smolinski, Fielder

Nationals – Harper, Span, Ramos, Rendon

Mariners – Cruz, Trumbo, Weeks, Cano

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
