Welcome to Monday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. The Twins @ Red Sox game has been PPD due to rain so we are down to a 10 game slate. The Blue Jays @ Nationals game has some major rain issues as well so we will likely be avoiding that game.
- Felix Hernandez
- Jacob deGrom
- Clayton Kershaw
- Michael Pineda
- Gerrit Cole
- Jason Hammel
- Ubaldo Jimenez
- Andrew Cashner
- Garrett Richards
- Jamie Garcia
Felix Hernandez is the top play tonight at home against the Yankees. The game total opened at 6 for this one and Felix is currently a -140 favorite. The Yankees are in the middle of a long road trip thousands of miles from home. We do not have umpire information for this game (difficult to access this data on the first game of a new series). Jacob deGrom gets a nice park to pitch in tonight against a Padres team that is hurting without Wil Myers. deGrom has a very solid K rate above 25% and the Padres continue to rank in the bottom 3rd of the league against RHP. The issue with deGrom and Felix both is projecting the win due to the opposing pitcher. Clayton Kershaw has the largest win probability of any pitcher tonight but he draws a start at Coors Field. Personally I think Kershaw is still in play in all formats with a pretty reasonable price tag. I’m starting my multiple entry tournament play tonight and I’m using a heavy dose of guys like Jason Hammel and Ubaldo Jimenez as SP2’s tonight. Jimenez has top tier level upside tonight.
- Yasmani Grandal
- Miguel Montero
- Jonathan Lucory (Might return today)
- Jason Castro
- A.J. Ellis
Yasmani Grandal probably won’t catch tonight because A.J. Ellis is typically the personal catcher for Clayton Kershaw. However, we must mention Grandal incase he is in the lineup because he is far and away the top play at catcher if he gets the call tonight. Miguel Montero ranks well despite a pretty nasty park shift. Jonathan Lucroy is an elite tournament option tonight if he returns for the Brewers. Lucroy played his final rehab game on Sunday. A.J. Ellis a fine punt play that has an acceptable ranking tonight thanks to Coors Field.
1st Base Rankings
- Paul Goldschmidt
- Adrian Gonzalez
- Freddie Freeman
- Pedro Alvarez
- Anthony Rizzo
Paul Goldschmidt is the top play once again on Monday against a LHP at Chase Field. Goldy is on another planet right now at the plate and he rewarded us nicely yesterday on DraftKings and in our FanDuel tournament lineups. The air density is low and the wind is blowing out tonight with Alex Wood on the mound. Goldy is a virtual lock to reach base in some way tonight and he is once again the #1 overall hitter in the model tonight. Adrian Gonzalez is an elite value tonight against Kyle Kendrick at just 3800 on FanDuel. Gonzalez is a top 5 overall hitter and one of three Dodgers in the top 5. Gonzalez is a core value in your cash games tonight if you’re not paying up for Goldy. Freddie Freeman hit a pinch hit HR last night and he ranks well again tonight thanks to a nice park shift at Chase Field. Freeman will certainly be under owned tonight with Goldy and AGON in elite matchups. Also consider Pedro Alvarez as a contrarian play.
2nd Base Rankings
- Howie Kendrick
- Neil Walker
- Kolten Wong
- Jace Peterson
2nd base is relatively weak tonight with no players ranking in the top 20 overall players list in RotoMinds adjusted wOBA. Neil Walker grabs the top spot even in a poor hitters park. Walker will get to hit left handed tonight which is good news. The Pirates offense is clicking right now and Walker is a great contrarian play tonight with the masses on the Coors field game. I know I will have exposure to Walker in my tournaments. Howie Kendrick is next in line assuming he is in the lineup tonight for the Dodgers. We don’t really need to spend much time talking about Coors field with Kyle Kendrick on the mound….
3rd Base Rankings
- Justin Turner
- Aramis Ramirez
- Kris Bryant
- Matt Carpenter
- Yasmany Tomas
Justin Turner is the top play at 3B and a top 5 overall hitter in our model tonight. Seeing a name like Justin Turner higher than Mike Trout might seem a little strange but that is where its at tonight. If Justin Turner is in the lineup and hitting in the top 5 go ahead and lock him in to your cash games. Matt Carpenter and Aramis Ramirez are two of my favorite tournament options tonight.
- Troy Tulowitzki
- Jimmy Rollins
- Jhonny Peralta
Troy Tulowitzki ranks as the #1 play at SS again tonight even in a matchup with Clayton Kershaw. Tulo had a nice series in Philly and had the day off yesterday so he should be ready to go tonight against Kershaw. Tulo will be a tournament play only but we will have a small amount of Tulo tonight. Jimmy Rollins is next in line if he is in the Dodgers lineup. Rollins is a switch hitter who has 3 things working in his favor tonight… #1 Coors Field. #2 Platoon Advantage. #3 teammates with elite RotoMinds adjusted wOBA hitting behind him.
Joc Pederson is the clear cut top play and the #2 overall hitter in our model tonight. Pederson is just 3400 on FanDuel making him a must play in your cash games and a guy you really can’t fade completely in tournaments if you’re entering multiple lineups. Peterson has a ridiculous RotoMinds adjusted wOBA and even more ridiculous ISO numbers. This play is similar to Donaldson the other night… just lock him in and move on.
