Monday DFS MLB Plays

Welcome to Monday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. Tonight we have a full slate of games with several weather issues that we will need to monitor throughout the day. The biggest threat for a PPD is the CIN-DET game.

Pitching Rankings

  1. Masahiro Tanaka
  2. Francisco Liriano
  3. Dallas Keuchel
  4. Jake Arrieta
  5. Gio Gonzalez
  6. Tyson Ross
  7. Trevor Bauer
  8. John Lackey
  9. Jesse Hahn
  10. Edinson Volquez

Masahiro Tanaka earns the top spot tonight with the massive positive park shift for him in Miami. Tanaka has been great since returning from injury and he gets a favorable matchup in a big park. The Yankees lefties should provide run support against Tom Koehler. Francisco Liriano is a scary play every time he takes the mound because of how quickly things turn south if he doesn’t have it that day. The White Sox are facing a big negative park shift which only helps Liriano and his 10.1 K/9 rate. Question here is whether or not the Pirates bats show up for run support.

Catcher Rankings

  • Yasmani Grandal
  • Evan Gattis
  • Matt Wieters
  • Jonathan Lucroy
  • Stephen Vogt
  • Chris Iannetta

We have a few decent catcher options tonight with Yasmani Grandal and the Dodgers in a nice park shift at Texas being the top target tonight. Matt Wieters is in a great spot here tonight… let’s hope he gets a top 5 spot in the lineup tonight so we can lock in some exposure. Chris Iannetta also deserves a look against the LHP despite the poor hitting park at home in Anaheim.

1st Base Rankings

  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Freedie Freeman
  • Adam Lind
  • Prince Fielder
  • Adrian Gonzalez
  • David Ortiz
  • Brandon Belt

Miguel Cabrera ranks as the #1 play tonight but the price tag and weather forecast have moved Miggy (and all Tigers) to GPP only plays for us tonight. Freedie Freeman ranks really well in the model tonight and will likely be a very under owned player that we want exposure to in a positive park shift at Fenway Park. Freeman comes in with a .412 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA in this matchup. Adrian Gonzalez is another core target tonight as we look to take advantage of the Dodgers in a positive park shift against a struggling pitcher. David Ortiz and Chris Davis are both in play in all formats due to their current price tags. Ortiz is still 2500….. Also consider Brandon Belt in tournaments tonight.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Jimmy Paredes
  • Howie Kendrick
  • Ian Kinsler
  • Robinson Cano
  • Kolten Wong
  • Jose Altuve

Jimmy Paredes was less than stellar on Sunday but it’s important to note that he was the victim of some bad luck with a few of his hits going just foul. Let’s hope our trend of players hitting HR’s the next day continues because we will definitely have Paredes exposure again tonight in another great matchup for the O’s. Howie Kendrick is just another one of the Dodgers that has value tonight in the positive park shift against Gallardo. Ian Kinsler is a great play and the Tigers have a team total over 5 in vegas but weather is the major concern  here.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Matt Carpenter
  • Joey Gallo
  • Justin Turner
  • Kris Bryant
  • Manny Machado

Matt Carpenter is the top play again tonight with his .408 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA. Carpenter is another player that we are projecting a low ownership level on tonight. Joey Gallo is an elite hitter in this situation (in a very limited sample size) and a great way to have exposure to the Rangers offense tonight against a pitcher that struggles with LHB. Also consider Manny Machado in all formats tonight as long as he continues to lead off for the O’s.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Troy Tulowitzki
  • Carlos Correa
  • Jung-Ho Kang
  • Alcides Escobar

Tulo is once again the top play at SS even in a huge negative park shift. Tulo is definitely a GPP only play tonight and really anytime he is playing outside of Coors Field. Carlos Correa is next in line now that he is hitting 2nd for the Astros in a good hitting environment. Also consider Jung-Ho Kang if hitting top 6 of the lineup tonight.

Outfield Rankings

Mike Trout is the clear cut top play overall in this slate but the price tag isn’t realistic with the top tier pitching options.

Outfield Tier 1:

Shin-Soo Choo, Yasiel Puig, Andrew McCutchen, Bryce Harper, Michael Cuddyer, Joc Pederson, Mitch Moreland, Starling Marte, Jose Bautista, Hanley Ramirez

Outfield Tier 2:

Daniel Nava, George Springer, Andre Ethier, Colby Rasmus, Jason Heyward, Denard Span, Steve Pearce, Josh Reddick, David Peralta, Preston Tucker.

Mike’s Top Four Team Stacks

Dodgers – Pederson, Puig, Gonzalez, Grandal

Rangers – Choo, Moreland, Fielder, Gallo

Orioles – Machado, Paredes, Jones, Davis, Riemold

Astros – Springer, Correa, Gattis, Carter

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
