NFL DFS Week 4 NFL Quaterback Rankings
- Aaron Rodgers
- Cam Newton
- Andrew Luck
- Matt Ryan
- Peyon Manning
- Drew Brees
- Russell Wilson
- Carson Palmer
- Tyrod Taylor
- Andy Dalton
Aaron Rodgers ranks as the top play at QB once again this week as the Packers take on the 49ers who have a very weak pass rush defense. The thing that makes Rodgers so special is the efficiency and the consistency. Rogers has 10 touchdown passes in the first three games with two of those games coming against the Seahawks and Chiefs who project to be above average defenses. The Packers are large road favorites in this game but the road game could help the 49ers keep the game competitive enough for a big day from Rodgers.
Cam Newton – Our model is a little higher on Newton than the rest of the market this week and this is largely due to the Panthers playing on the road in the game with the lowest Vegas total. Most of the projection systems on the market weight vegas totals a little more than we do. Newton continues to climb in our model thanks to the running game where the Panthers are very open to designed runs for Newton near the goal line. The rushing yards also really help raise the floor and lower our risk level with Newton.
Matt Ryan – Ryan is a guy that we typically only target at home in Atlanta. The value in Ryan is through volume in the passing game while he has a healthy Julio Jones to target all afternoon. The price point on Ryan makes him a nice tournament play where he isn’t elite value but he is expensive enough that you’re more likely to pay for Rodgers safety net in cash games.
Tyrod Taylor – Taylor continues to represent the best value option at quarterback in week 4. The price point on Taylor really hasn’t come up much this season as he has been productive through the air and in the running game. Taylor is in play for many of the same reasons we like Newton… the rushing yards are huge for a QB’s floor in daily fantasy.
Andy Dalton – Dalton is another fine tournament play across the industry and a nice cash play on DraftKings where his price tag allows you to really build some nice rosters this week.
NFL DFS Week 4 NFL Running Back Rankings
- Le’Veon Bell
- Latavius Murray
- Matt Forte
- Jamaal Charles
- Adrian Peterson
- Karlos Williams
- Devonta Freeman
- Marshawn Lynch
- Eddie Lacy
- Frank Gore
Le’Veon Bell – Le’Veon Bell had a solid first week of his season last week in a game where his team only scored 1 touchdown. The Steelers are playing without Big Ben which really hurts the passing game but we aren’t projecting a decline for Bell due to Michael Vicks struggles in the long passing game. If you’re using anyone from this Thursday night game it would be Le’Veon Bell. There really isn’t much to say about Bell because he is basically matchup proof because of his pass catching abilities out of the backfield.
Latavius Murray – Murray had another nice game for us last week after a slow start in the first quarter. We have to be careful with game script for most running backs where we don’t want to take a running back on a -7 under dog. Murray is a unique back who is safe in anything +5 to -14 because he does have the ability to catch passes out of the backfield. Murray and the Raiders get their turn against the awful Chicago Bears defense.
Karlos Williams – Karlos Williams is going to be a popular pick this week and for good reason. LeSean McCoy is scheduled to miss week 4, making Williams the feature back for the Bills against the New York Giants. The price point on Williams makes him a near must play in cash games this week. This also makes paying for running back a nice tournament strategy this week with the high expected ownership levels on some of the cheaper running backs.
Devonta Freeman – Freeman had a huge week last week as we took a wait and see approach on his usage with Coleman out. If Coleman is ruled out again we are comfortable with Freeman in all formats this week but we definitely need confirmation on Coleman’s status before we lock him in to our cash games.
NFL DFS Week 4 NFL Wide Receiver Rankings
- Julio Jones
- Odell Beckham Jr.
- Randall Cobb
- Demaryius Thomas
- Keenan Allen
- A.J. Green
- DeAndre Hopkins
- Emmanuel Sanders
- Larry Fitzgerald
- Antonio Brown
- Amari Cooper
- T.Y. Hilton
Julio Jones – Julio Jones is averaging over 15 targets per game in the the first 3 games for the Falcons. This number is likely going to decrease a little but it’s safe to assume Julio is going to see double digit targets in 90% of his games this season. Roddy White appears to have very little role in the Falcons offense this year with a lot of his workload falling on the shoulders of Jones. If you’re spending up on one player (outside of Thursday games with Bell) this week then Julio Jones is your man.
Randall Cobb – Cobb continues to benefit from the Jordy Nelson injury as he has clearly become the number one option for Rodgers and the Packers. Cobb is the clear cut #2 option for cash games this week right behind Julio Jones. The Packers are a big favorite this week so there is minimal risk in Cobb’s game script if he fails to get in on the scoring in the first 2-3 quarters.
Keenan Allen – Allen is a guy who will be a source of frustration to many this season because he is going to be one of the higher variance players at the position. Allen is definitely the best weapon that Rivers has to work with. The big draw with Keenan Allen is the price point is at a level where he is going to be low owned because of the other names in the general area. We like Allen a lot again this week in tournaments on all sites, especially PPR sites.
Amari Cooper – Cooper is quickly have success in the NFL which isn’t shocking at all if you followed his college career where he was simply dominant against the college defensive secondaries. The most encouraging thing is Carr seems to trust Cooper who has seen over 30 targets in the first 3 games. If Cooper continues to see double digit targets he will be relevant in DFS for the rest of the season as the Raiders will be throwing often most weeks.
A.J. Green – Green has big upside this week when paired with Andy Dalton. So far the Chiefs are one of the worst against QB’s (possibly due to Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning). I really like the idea of pairing A.J. Green with Andy Dalton on DraftKings where Dalton is a nice value play.
T.Y. Hilton – Andrew Luck is going to have a monster game very soon and it’s going to be because T.Y. Hilton is able to burn the secondary of a weak defense all afternoon. This week the Colts get a home game against the Jaguars who have a questionable defensive secondary. Hilton is one of our favorite tournament plays this week that has multiple TD and 100+ yard upside.
NFL DFS Week 4 NFL Tight End Rankings
- Greg Olsen
- Jimmy Graham
- Jordan Reed
- Travis Kelce
- Martellus Bennett
- Jason Witten
- Tyler Eifert
- Jared Cook
- Charles Clay
- Eric Ebron
Greg Olsen – Our first week without Rob Gronkowski as the Patriots have a bye week this week. Greg Olsen has had an up and down season if you look at box scores. If you watch football games or at least view play by play data you’d know that Olsen has really had a nice season as he has simply had touchdowns called back for silly holding or illegal formation penalties. Olsen is the top target for Cam Newton and a very legit red zone target. With the Panthers you can bet Cam is going to run it in himself or look for Greg Olsen in the red zone. Olsen is averaging just over 9 targets per game which is almost unheard of at the tight end position. Strong play in all formats.
Jimmy Graham – Graham saw a little more love from the Seahawks last week and he should be in line for a little more. Who really know what is going on with Marshawn Lynch, but it’s only going to benefit Jimmy in the short term. The Lions are another nice matchup for Jimmy this week.
Jordan Reed – Reed is another tight end seeing big targets through the first 3 weeks of the season. The biggest threat to Reed is the weather with the hurricane approaching. It looks to me like the game gets played but it could be wet. We will have details later in the weekend.
NFL DFS Week 4 Defense Rankings
- Seattle Seahawks
- Denver Broncos
- Carolina Panthers
- Arizona Cardinals
- Buffalo Bills
- Philadelphia Eagles
The Seahawks rank as our #1 defense once again… shocking, I know. The Lions do not matchup well at all with the Seattle defense. Seattle is going to be the most expensive defense most weeks this year but it’s for good reason. If you have the cap space Seattle is the top play on the board.
Denver Broncos – Denver looks like they have one of the best defenses in the league after 3 weeks. The price point on the Broncos is very attractive as they return home this week against a rather week Vikings offense with a young QB in Bridgewater. I like the Broncos a lot in all formats this week.
NFL DFS Week 4 Kicker Rankings
- Mason Crosby
- Brandon McManus
- Matt Bryant
- Steven Hauschka
- Josh Lambo
Josh Lambo really messed things up last week but the price tag and game script look nice here. Good time for short term memory loss!
