Welcome to Saturday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. The split slate schedule returns today with just six games in the late slate. The Coors field game was included in the early slate to that will make people have to work a little harder tonight.
- Clayton Kershaw
- David Price
- Felix Hernandez
- Julio Teheran
- Garrett Richards
Clayton Kershaw is the top play at home against the Cardinals. The Cardinals actually rank in the bottom third in the league against LHP and Kershaw is the best LHP in the game in a good pitchers park. We all know about Kershaw’s strikeout potential by now so the top ranking shouldn’t really surprise anyone. David Price is next in line despite the road matchup. The Tigers have the highest win probability of any team tonight and we all know how valuable those 4 points are on FanDuel so you can make an argument for Price as the top overall play. Felix is next in line but definitely on a different level than Kershaw/Price.
- James McCann
- Wellington Castillo
- Francisco Cervelli
Catcher is a very weak position for this six game slate…. nearly every play we recommend here is a punt play in a good park or game script. James McCann is the best option if he is in the lineup followed by Wellington Castillo.
1st Base Rankings
- Miguel Cabrera
- Jose Abreu
- Paul Goldschmidt
- Lucas Duda
- Pedro Alvarez
Miguel Cabrera is the top play at first base and the #1 overall hitter in RotoMinds adjusted wOBA tonight against John Danks. Miggy has a very high probability of reaching base multiple times. Jose Abreu is the contrarian play tonight against David Price if you want to go that route in tournaments. Lucas Duda is next in line for cash games behind Miggy. Duda has the largest positive park shift of any player at the position tonight and gets a young RHP in Chase Anderson.
2nd Base Rankings
- Ian Kinsler
- Robinson Cano
- Neil Walker
- Howie Kendrick
Ian Kinsler is the top play at 2B tonight. Kinsler has the platoon advantage against John Danks and a positive park shift at U.S. Cellular. Kinsler is a great play in all formats tonight as we attempt to maximize exposure to the best hitting environment. Robinson Cano is another top target in projection but has a much worse hitting environment and game script tonight. Neil Walker and Howie Kendrick are the top targets in tournaments against decent pitchers.
3rd Base Rankings
- Kyle Seager
- Nick Castellanos
- Alex Rodriguez
- Chris Johnson
Third base is very similar to catcher tonight where there really isn’t a clear cut top play in a good hitting environment. Third base will largely depend on the lineup order for the teams tonight.
- Jose Iglesias
- Brad Miller
- Wilmer Flores
And another weak position where Iglesias is the top play tonight against John Danks. The fact that Iglesias is the top play should tell you that it’s a relatively weak night at the position. After Iglesias we will be targeting Wilmer Flores in a large positive park shift at Chase Field.
Mike Trout is the #1 OF play and the #2 overall hitter in the model tonight. Trout and the Angels get a nice park shift at Yankee stadium. If you have the cap then Trout is a great play…. obviously.
Outfield Tier 1:
Rajai Davis, J.D. Martinez, Yoenis Cespedes… notice a pattern? The Tigers all rank very well tonight.
David Peralta, Kole Calhoun, Michael Cuddyer
Outfield Tier 2:
Curtis Granderson, Matt Joyce, A.J. Pollock, Nelson Cruz, Joey Butler, Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte
Mike’s Top Four Team Stacks
Tigers – Cabrera, Kinsler, Davis, McCann
Angels – Trout, Pujols, Calhoun, Joyce
Mets – Granderson, Duda, Flores, Cuddyer
Diamondbacks – Goldschmidt, Pollock, Peralta, Tomas
Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
