Saturday DFS MLB Plays

DFS MLB Plays

Welcome to Saturday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. Back to another annoying split slate with an unusual start time for 9 games. We are playing the “afternoon only” slate on FanDuel and the “Early” slate on DraftKings (both start at 4:05 PM EST)

Pitching Rankings

  1. Chris Archer
  2. Jacob deGrom
  3. Gerrit Cole
  4. Shelby Miller
  5. Collin McHugh
  6. Carlos Carrasco
  7. Jeff Samardzija

Chris Archer earns the top spot today back at home in a great pitchers park. Archer has the largest strikeout prop of the day at 7.5 and I like the over here. Archer has been fantastic with at least 11 strikeouts in each of his last 3 games against comparable or better opponents than he will face today. You should definitely have exposure to Archer in your cash games today. Jacob deGrom is next in line for us today against the Braves. deGrom and Cole are pretty close but the weather threat in Pittsburgh it’s a pretty easy call to look to deGrom over Cole today. Any of the top 7 here have value in tournaments today and Jeff Samardzija stands out as having the most upside this afternoon.

Catcher Rankings

  • Jonathan Lucroy
  • Salvador Perez

Catcher is pretty clear cut for us today with the price tag and lineup spot for Jonathan Lucroy there really isn’t any reason to look elsewhere in your cash games today. 2500 hitting 2nd in that park is just too good to pass up no matter what the projected ownership levels are in cash games.

1st Base Rankings

  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Prince Fielder
  • Adam Lind
  • Joe Mauer/Kennys Vargas

Miguel Cabrera ranks as the #1 play at 1B even against Carlos Carrasco but the price tag is a little too aggressive for cash games so he is a tournament only play for us today. Prince Fielder is next in line behind Cabrera in his matchup with Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey is a reverse splits guy who is actually better against LHB than RHB but I don’t think that matters much for a hitter like Prince Fielder. Prince actually has decent history against Pelfrey with 8 hits in 25 AB’s and 3 of those 8 hits left the yard. If you need to save a few bucks at 1B then Adam Lind and The Twins 1B guys are you best bet. These 3 all actually rank higher than Prince and Miggy in the adjusted numbers with the weather factors but still fall short in fantasy point projections.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Neil Walker
  • Robinson Cano
  • Kolten Wong
  • Dee Gordon

2nd base is a position where we have several viable options this afternoon. Neil Walker earns the top spot against O’Sullivan who really struggles with LHB. Walker should hit 4th again today and have a little better game today than last night. Once the rain moves out, the weather is actually pretty good for hitting in Pitt today. Kolten Wong gets a nice matchup with Jeremy Guthrie who really struggles with LHB in a huge sample size. The hitting conditions are good in STL today too. Dee Gordon is next in line due to his speed upside on the bases but he is clearly ranking below all of the other options listed above.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Matt Carpenter
  • Joey Gallo
  • Kyle Seager
  • Josh Harrison
  • Trevor Plouffe

Matt Carpenter easily earns the top spot and is a top 10 overall hitter today in good hitting conditions against Jeremy Guthrie. I think we are all aware of Guthrie’s struggles with LHB’s…. Carpenter is an elite play in all formats and the price tag is fairly realistic on FanDuel. Joey Gallo is listed for the tournament plays because of his power upside but he is a bit of a wildcard and should probably be avoided in your cash games with the other options available. Kyle Seager is next in line in a decent park shift but draws a tough matchup with McHugh… another great tournament play. Josh Harrison is someone we prefer against LHP but he should have a nice lineup spot and benefit from his teammates reaching base around him.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Troy Tulowitzki
  • Carlos Correa
  • Alcides Escobar
  • Jhonny Peralta

Tulo is once again the top play at SS even in a huge negative park shift. Tulo is definitely a GPP only play tonight and really anytime he is playing outside of Coors Field. Carlos Correa is next in line now that he is hitting 2nd for the Astros at home with Altuve out of the lineup. If you don’t like Correa then Alcides Escobar is the guy you want to target next against Tyler Lyons. Jhonny Peralta is the tournament play here due to his price tag and not having the platoon advantage.

Outfield Rankings

Bryce Harper is the clear cut top play overall in this slate but the price tag isn’t realistic with the top tier pitching options.

Outfield Tier 1:

Shin-Soo Choo, Alex Rios, Jason Heyward, Denard Span, Andrew McCutchen, Gregory Polanco, Nelson Cruz, Lorenzo Cain, George Springer

Outfield Tier 2:

Mitch Moreland, Michael Brantley, Carlos Gomez, Jon Jay, Eddie Rosario,

Mike’s Top Four Team Stacks

Rangers – Fielder, Choo, Moreland, Gallo

Cardinals – Carpenter, Wong, Peralta, Heyward

Pirates – Polanco, Walker, McCutchen, Alvarez

Astros – Springer, Correa, Gattis, Carter

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
