Pitching Rankings

  1. Chris Sale
  2. Max Scherzer
  3. Corey Kluber
  4. A.J. Burnett
  5. Cole Hammels
  6. James Shields
  7. Jon Lester
  8. Mike Bolsinger
  9. Sonny Gray
  10. Chris Heston

Chris Sale is the #1 pitcher today on a day where we have multiple “aces” throwing. The biggest bump for Sale is the park factor here at Tropicana compared to back home at the Cell. The Rays have a few players that hit LHP pretty well but Sale isn’t your average LHP. Sale has an elite K/9 rate over 11 and should be able to approach double digit strikeouts today if  he can go 7-8 innings. Max Scherzer is next in line and is dealing with a negative park shift in Milwaukee but the move to the National League has been a good thing for Max. Sale and Scherzer are the two top options today for your cash games.

Catcher Rankings

  • Brian McCann
  • Buster Posey
  • Evan Gattis
  • Wilson Ramos
  • Stephen Vogt

Brian McCann ranks as the #1 catcher in our model on Sunday but the price point is a little elevated on FanDuel for cash games with the top tier pitchers today.  This makes McCann and the catcher position in general a great place to spend your cap on Sunday to differentiate yourself from the crowd in large tournaments. Brian McCann and Buster Posey are prime examples of great tournament plays today. Evan Gattis is next in line in a matchup against a LHP due to his huge power upside against southpaws. Wilson Ramos represents the best value at catcher if  he is in the lineup and hitting 5th again. Prince gets Phil Hughes this afternoon in Texas

1st Base Rankings

  • Anthony Rizzo
  • Freddie Freeman
  • Lucas Duda
  • Brandon Belt
  • Prince Fielder
  • David Ortiz
  • Chris Davis
  • Joe Mauer

Anthony Rizzo earns the top spot against DeSclafani. If you have the cap  space to pay up for Rizzo then go for it. Rizzo is a great play in all formats tonight if the weather holds off in Chicago. Lucas Duda and Brandon Belt are two of my favorite tournament plays on Sunday that have big upside. I’m expecting each player to be less than 5% owned in large tournaments. Prince Fielder and David Ortiz are the cash game targets today. We have touched on and used Ortiz recently and everything still applies… I have no idea why he is still 2500 on FanDuel but its borderline must have some exposure situation.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Robinson Cano
  • Jeff Baker
  • Jose Altuve – Check injury status
  • Jason Kipnis
  • Jimmy Paredes
  • Brian Dozier

We have a nice variety of options at 2B on Sunday. Jimmy Paredes stands out the most at just 2500 on FanDuel… let’s hope for a nice lineup spot like usual for Jimmy. Jeff Baker deserves a look due to his power hitting against LHP and hitting near Stanton in the lineup. Baker is more of a tournament play now with the price tag on Paredes. Jose Altuve is too cheap against a LHP but there are injury concerns even if he does play so another GPP play there.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Josh Donaldson
  • Matt Carpenter
  • Alex Rodriguez/Chase Headley
  • Martin Prado
  • Anthony Rendon
  • Joey Gallo

Josh Donaldson is the obvious top play here against a LHP in a decent park. This LHP has been solid in his young career but we all know Donaldson is one of the best hitters in the game against LHP. The price point on Donaldson removes him from consideration in cash games pretty quickly but I like him in tournaments. Matt Carpenter was okay yesterday but not great. The model likes him again today. I won’t rule him out for cash games but it’s definitely a contrarian play today with the other options at the position. Alex Rodriguez and Chase Headley are great cash game plays today and the best way to get exposure to the Yankees in a good matchup. Also consider Anthony Rendon and Joey Gallo depending on lineup spot.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Troy Tulowitzki
  • Ian Desmond
  • Jung-Ho Kang
  • Brandon Crawford
  • Elvis Andrus
  • Xander Bogaerts

Tulo is once again the top play at SS even in a huge negative park shift. Tulo is definitely a GPP only play tonight and really anytime he is playing outside of Coors Field. Ian Desmond in next in line and we are hoping for a better lineup spot today (top 6) but who knows where he will be with WAS today. Xander Bogaerts is another guy whose value depends heavily on the lineup spot today… we are only buying if he grabs a spot in the top 5 of the order.

Outfield Rankings

Giancarlo Stanton and Bryce Harper are the top 2 hitters overall in our model today. Stanton is at home in a bad park but gets a LHP on the mound. Harper is in Milwaukee in a nice park shift against a pitcher who got hit at AAA…. If you have the cap there is no better hitter to spend on today.

Outfield Tier 1:

Shin-Soo Choo, Andrew McCutchen, Jose Bautista, George Springer, Nelson Cruz, Denard Span, Carlos Beltran, Brett Gardner, Mitch Moreland, Joc Pederson, Michael Brantley

Outfield Tier 2:

Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez, Starling Marte, David Peralta, Chris Coghlan, Dexter Fowler, Brandon Moss, Delino DeShields Jr.

Mike’s Top Five Team Stacks

Rangers – Fielder, Choo, Moreland, Gallo

Yankees – Gardner, Headley, Rodriguez, McCann, Beltran

Orioles – Paredes, Jones, Davis, Machado

Blue Jays – Donaldson, Bautista, Colabello, Martin

Nationals – Harper, Rendon, Span, Ramos, Desmond

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
