Welcome to Tuesday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. Back to the full slate tonight with several aces on the mound. DraftKings is running another $1 Million tournament with $100,000 to first place tonight so we will list our top 8 stacks of the night.
- Clayton Kershaw – Clear cut top play like always. Great spot for Kershaw tonight.
- Jacob deGrom – Kupla behind home is great news for deGrom.
- David Price
- Madison Bumgarner
- Matt Shoemaker
- Danny Salazar
- Jesse Chavez
We aren’t going to spend much time writing about pitching tonight as its pretty straight forward… Kershaw is easily the top play and deGrom is 2nd in line with his matchup and favorable umpire situation. Price and Bumgarner are your more contrarian or tournament options with upside. Be sure to download the hitting data to help identify potential pitching options.
- Yan Gomes
- Buster Posey
- Francisco Cervelli
- Miguel Montero
Yan Gomes gets the top spot at catcher tonight against Wandy Rodriguez. Wandy has been pretty solid this year and we have adjusted his numbers to indicate his recent improvements. Yan Gomes still comes into tonight’s game with a .405 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA and a very impressive .200 ISO. Gomes will also benefit from a relatively low air density and winds blowing out.
1st Base Rankings
- Edwin Encarnacion
- Paul Goldschmidt
- Anthony Rizzo
- Lucas Duda
- Adrian Gonzalez
- Jose Abreu
Like most days, we have a plethora of options at first base tonight. Edwin Encarnacion leads the pack with his .428 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA in tonight’s matchup with John Danks. John Danks really struggles with RHB and like we touched on with Russell Martin, E5 has the added benefit of several teammates being elite hitters in this matchup. Paul Goldschmidt is next in line despite the negative park shift. Goldy will be reserved for tournament use only tonight but he does have as much upside as any player tonight. Jose Abreu is another player who might finally be coming around as the weather is warming up. Abreu reminds me of Miguel Cabrera…. Abreu can hit for power against both left and right handed pitchers. Jose Abreu has also shown the ability to hit the knuckleball and gets a matchup with Dickey tonight in a favorable hitting environment. Abreu is 2-3 with 2 HR’s vs Dickey. This is obviously an extremely small sample size but we must always consider BvP (BvP means batter vs pitch profile here at RotoMinds) when we are dealing with the knuckleball.
Also consider: Lucas Duda in your tournaments tonight against Jerome Williams.
2nd Base Rankings
- Neil Walker
- Jimmy Paredes
- Dustin Pedroia
- Steve Tolleson
2nd base is pretty weak on Tuesday night with no hitters ranking in the top 20 overall. The switch hitting Neil Walker earns the top spot tonight in his matchup against a relatively unknown pitcher for the Marlins. We prefer Walker hitting left handed like he is tonight. Look for the Pirates to open up the running game tonight as they reach base. Jimmy Paredes is having a great year and now I’m really wishing the Royals didn’t let this guy get go! Paredes is hitting RHP very well and has as much upside as anyone on a weak night for for the position.
3rd Base Rankings
- Josh Donaldson
- Kris Bryant
- Danny Valencia
- Adrian Beltre
- Evan Longoria
Josh Donaldson is easily the top play at 3B tonight and the #1 ranked hitter in our model. Donaldson has a ridiculous .501 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA in tonight’s matchup with John Danks. Many times you can make an argument for fading the top overall play due to price and other value but I don’t recommend fading Donaldson tonight in your cash games. On FanDuel it is very easy to use Donaldson with Kershaw so I see no reason to look elsewhere in cash games. Danny Valencia also ranks very well and is 2B eligible on DraftKings so we can play both Valencia and Donaldson in the same lineup! Kris Bryant is next in line and one of my favorite tournament options tonight at Wrigley with a very low air density and the wind blowing out at nearly 20 MPH. A lot of people are going to overlook Adrian Beltre tonight with Donaldson having such a great matchup. Beltre gets the HR prone Danny Salazar in a pretty good hitting situation tonight. The park isn’t the best for power hitting but the weather conditions are very good (low air density and wind).
- Troy Tulowtizki
- Jose Reyes
- Alexei Ramirez
- Jhonny Peralta
Troy Tulowtizki is still the top play tonight in a good hitting environment but his price tag makes him more appropriate in tournaments. Jose Reyes returned from injury last night with a solid first game and gets a dream matchup tonight with John Danks. Reyes has a .361 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA in this matchup and benefits from the elite hitters behind him in the lineup. Also consider Alexei Ramirez who has shown the ability to hit the knuckleball well in his career and has a nice history against R.A. Dickey. Ramirez is just 2400 on FanDuel tonight.
Top Plays – Jose Bautista, Giancarlo Stanton, Bryce Harper, Mike Trout and Andre McCutchen are all ranked in the top tier tonight and are all fine plays in all formats. We have touched on the elite matchup for the Blue Jays who are all healthy tonight with Bautista, Reyes, Donaldson, Edwin, Valencia all in the lineup. This is the first game with Jays have been healthy for in over a month. Giancarlo Stanton is just ridiculous and gets a matchup with a very average LHP tonight in Jeff Locke. Stanton has a .430 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA in this game with an ISO just under .300. The price point is very reasonable on DraftKings, making Stanton the best option as a filler in your stacks tonight.
