Tuesday DFS MLB Plays

Welcome to Tuesday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. Tonight is annoying due to the double header in Colorado and not having team lineups before lock for the best hitting environment in the slate.

Pitching Rankings

  1. Max Scherzer
  2. Noah Syndergaard
  3. Johnny Cueto
  4. Chris Archer
  5. Lance Lynn
  6. A.J. Burnett
  7. Zack Greinke
  8. C.J. Wilson
  9. Collin McHugh
  10. Mike Wright
  11. Chris Heston

Max Scherzer is the top play tonight in projection but the matchup isn’t the best and the price tag is excessive on a night where you need to spend a little on hitting. Max is an elite tournament play tonight but probably a little too expensive in cash with the Dodgers at Coors. Noah Syndergaard is next in line and an elite value in a pitchers park against a struggling Padres offense. We touched on the Padres struggles with RHP last night… look for more of the same tonight. Cueto is next in line but we do have some concerns with his elbow injury…. another great tournament play tonight.

Catcher Rankings

  • Yasmani Grandal
  • Stephen Vogt
  • Yadier Molina
  • Brayan Pena

Yasmani Grandal is once again the top play and he SHOULD be in the lineup tonight since he did not start the first game of the double header. Grandal is the clear cut top play and a near must play in your cash games. Stephen Vogt is a great alternative to Grandal tonight. Vogt has a decent park shift against a pitcher who isn’t great at dealing with lefties. Also consider: Brayan Pena, Jason Castro, Yadier Molina and Evan Gattis.

1st Base Rankings

  • Adrian Gonzalez
  • Joey Votto
  • Freddie Freeman
  • Jose Abreu
  • Adam LaRoche
  • Paul Goldschmidt

Adrian Gonzalez is the clear cut top play if he is in the lineup. There is some concern here due to the fact that Gonzalez started the first game of the double header this afternoon. AGON at Coors field against a bad pitcher… we don’t really need to say anything else. Joey Votto gets a dream matchup with O’Sullivan who really struggles with lefties. The only knock on Votto is the negative park shift but it’s a fairly neutral park so I’m not too concerned here. Freddie Freeman is on the opposite end of the park shift spectrum. Freeman and the Braves have a nice park shift tonight at Arizona against a soft tossing pitcher that is in decline. Freeman is heating up on this west coast swing and the price is right on Freeman, making him a great target in all formats. Many of you that have been with us from the beginning of the season know all about the guy hitting a HR the next night streak… Goldy is the guy tonight.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Jason Kipnis
  • Neil Walker
  • Howie Kendrick
  • Kike Hernandez
  • Jace Peterson

Jason Kipnis is the top play tonight against maybe the worst pitcher against in the AL against lefty bats. Jeremy Guthrie has a tough matchup with the Indians lefties tonight and Kipnis leads the charge. If you have the cap space Kipnis is a great play. After Kipnis we want to focus park shift and load up on the Dodgers and Jace Peterson (if leading off).

3rd Base Rankings

  • Justin Turner
  • Kris Bryant
  • Matt Carpenter
  • Evan Longoria
  • Todd Frazier

Justin Turner is the top play at 3B again tonight. All of the Dodgers hitters saw an increase in price except for Justin Turner. Turner is an elite play and a must play if he is in the lineup at this price. Kris Bryant is another top play even in a poor park shift. Brad Hand played well in his last start against the Pirates but his career numbers indicate he is very hittable. Also consider Evan Longoria (mashes LHP) in tournaments and Todd Frazier as part of Reds mini stacks with Votto.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Troy Tulowitzki
  • Jimmy Rollins
  • Jhonny Peralta

Troy Tulowitzki ranks as the #1 play at SS and he sat the first game of the double header so its highly likely that he plays the night game. Jimmy Rollins is next in line if he is in the Dodgers lineup. Rollins is a switch hitter who has 3 things working in his favor tonight… #1 Coors Field. #2 Platoon Advantage. #3 teammates with elite RotoMinds adjusted wOBA hitting around him.

Outfield Rankings

Joc Pederson is the clear cut top play and the #1 overall hitter in our model tonight. Pederson played the first game but he is young so he will probably play both games. If he is in the lineup he needs to be in your lineup. Peterson has a ridiculous RotoMinds adjusted wOBA and even more ridiculous ISO numbers. This play is similar to Donaldson the other night… just lock him in and move on. (This was a copy and paste from last night… he hit a HR last night and just hit one in the first game of the double header)

Outfield Tier 1:

Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Andre Ethier, Nelson Cruz, Michael Brantley, Bryce Harper, Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez.

Outfield Tier 2:

Melky Cabrera, Shin-Soo Choo, Hanley Ramirez, Michael Cuddyer, Dexter Fowler, Colby Rasmus, Nick Markakis

Mike’s Top Seven Team Stacks

Dodgers – Peterson, Gonzalez, Turner, Rollins

Indians – Kipnis, Brantley, Santana, Moss

Braves – Freeman, Peterson, Markakis, Simmons

White Sox – Cabrera, Abreu, LaRoche, Eaton

Cardinals – Wong, Carpenter, Peralta, Heyward

Cubs – Fowler, Bryant, Rizzo, Montero

Rockies – Blackmon, Tulowitzki, Gonzalez, Paulsen

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
