Tuesday DFS MLB Plays

DFS MLB Plays

Welcome to Tuesday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. Last night was a pretty good night for the optimal lineup with Chris Sale and Avisail Garcia coming through for us at just 2% ownership. Tonight we have a full 15 game slate with several top tier pitching options and a Coors Field game.

  1. Corey Kluber
  2. Sonny Gray
  3. Max Scherzer
  4. Francisco Liriano
  5. James Shields
  6. Noah Syndergaard
  7. Masahiro Tanaka

Corey Kluber earns the top spot on Tuesday night at home against the Mariners. The Mariners have an implied run total of just 3 runs tonight on the road in Cleveland. Kluber has the highest K prop of any starting pitcher tonight at 8 and I like the over! You all know the drill by now… strikeouts and win probability are the target for FanDuel scoring system. Seattle can get very left handed but the quality of the hitters drops significantly after Cano and Seager. Kluber is an excellent target in all formats and the top target in cash games. Sonny Gray is next in line due to the combination of win probability and park factor. James Shields is another great play in another national league ball park. Shields continues to see a rise in his K rate in the national league.

  • Yadier Molina
  • Yan Gomes
  • Russell Martin
  • Stephen Vogt

Yadier Molina is the top play at catcher tonight thanks to the large park shift known at Coors Field. Molina gets a lefty at Coors and comes in with a nice .418 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA tonight which is puts him in the top overall at any position tonight. Molina is an elite target on FanDuel at just 2900. I like the catcher position quite a bit tonight with all four of our catcher targets ranking in the top 50 overall tonight. A top 50 ranking is pretty good on a night with 15 games. Yan Gomes has a ton of pop against lefties and gets to play at home tonight in a fairly neutral hitting environment. Russell Martin’s value will largely be about his lineup position but he does draw a nice matchup with Dan Haren at the Rogers Center. Vogt and the A’s are back home in the pitchers park but the matchup is still very good. The A’s are a great tournament and contrarian cash game play tonight.

1st Base Rankings

  • Jose Abreu
  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Edwin Encarnacion
  • Eric Hosmer/Kendrys Morales
  • Joey Votto
  • Lucas Duda
  • Mark Reynolds

Once again we have several viable options at first base. Abreu and Cabrera rank at the top like most nights due to their power upside and he majority of their games are played in hitters parks. Edwin Encarnacion should be back in the lineup tonight and he has a juicy matchup with Dan Haren who is dealing with a big negative park shift as a pitcher. The most realistic plays for your cash games tonight are guys like Joey Votto, Mark Reynolds and the Royals. Votto has a great matchup with Harang in a hitters park that rewards power hitters with HR’s. Mark Reynolds is obviously a decent play tonight with his price tag at Coors Field. If Reynolds is hitting top 4 tonight you absolutely have to have some exposure.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Jeff Baker
  • Jose Altuve
  • Howie Kendrick
  • Neil Walker
  • Chase Utley

Our favorite punt 2B play is back tonight as Jeff Baker gets a massive park shift against a LHP at Toronto. Baker is a platoon player who only plays against LHP…. the price tag is deflated because he isn’t an every day player. Baker is the top play in the adjusted wOBA model but will fall just behind Walker in the fantasy point model due to the increased risk of being pinch hit for late in the game. Neil Walker is next in line against a RHP. Walker is a switch hitter who hits better from the left hand side of the plate. The price point on Walker is very similar on FD. Altuve makes a fine tournament play against a LHP but the price point is too high for cash games with top tier pitching tonight.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Martin Prado
  • Kris Bryant
  • Josh Donaldson
  • Mike Moustakas
  • Matt Carpenter

Matt Carpenter and Nolan Arenado are the obvious choices here due to the Coors Field park shift. There are a few factors keeping these two from being must plays…. #1. Carpenter is a facing a LHP who has been solid at home and great against leftys. #2. Arenado gets a Wacha who has been very good against all batters. Martin Prado has the next best park shift at TOR and makes a great contrarian play that will be low owned tonight. Also consider Mike Moustakas in cash games due to the price point/lineup spot and Josh Donaldson if you have the cap space.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Jhonny Peralta
  • Troy Tulowitzki
  • Jose Reyes
  • Alcides Escobar

Shotstop is clear cut again like last night… Peralta and Tulo are the top plays at Coors field with the top spot going to Peralta with the platoon advantage and the park shift. Jose Reyes has upside as a switch hitter in a great matchup agianst Dan Haren. Alcides Escobar is the lead-off man for the Royals who have a nice matchup with Trevor May.

Outfield Rankings

Giancarlo Stanton is the #1 OF play and the #1 overall hitter in the model tonight. Stanton benefits from a huge park shift and a LHP on the mound. Stanton doesn’t wear the face shield against LHP so his vision should be just fine tonight, allowing him to make hard contact with the ball. Matt Holliday is another top play if he is in the lineup tonight (left with injury last night).

Outfield Tier 1:

Matt Holliday, Mike Trout, Jose Bautista, Steve Pearce, Yasiel Puig, George Springer, Alex Gordon, David Peralta, Bryce Harper, Randal Grichuk, Josh Reddick

Outfield Tier 2:

Mark Canha, Marcell Ozuna, Billy Burns, Adam Jones, Gregory Polanco, Carlos Gonzalez, Avisail Garcia, Ryan Raburn, Justin Upton, Matt Kemp.

Mike’s Top Seven Team Stacks

Cardinals – Carpenter, Peralta, Holliday, Grichuk, Reynolds

Rockies – Blackmon, Tulowitzki, Gonzalez, LeMahieu

Royals – Hosmer, Morales, Moustakas, Escobar, Gordon, Perez

Blue Jays – Encarnacion, Bautista, Reyes, Donaldson

Twins – Dozier, Mauer, Hunter, Plouffe

Tigers – Cabrera, Kinsler, Davis, Martinez

Pirates – Polanco, Walker, McCutchen, Marte

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
