Tuesday DFS MLB Plays

DFS MLB Plays

Welcome to Tuesday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. A split slate today leaves 10 games for the late slate.

Pitching Rankings

  1. Matt Harvey
  2. Jake Arrieta
  3. Garrett Richards
  4. Trevor Bauer
  5. Charlie Morton
  6. David Phelps
  7. Chris Tillman
  8. Chris Young

Matt Harvey is the top play tonight despite the “tough” matchup with the red hot Blue Jays. Harvey has the benefit of pitching at home tonight which is a nice negative park shift for the Toronto hitters. Harvey is a decent favorite (-140) with a strikeout prop of 7. Harvey has a solid 9.3 K/9 rate which should lead to a nice strikeout total against the aggressive Toronto lineup. Jake Arrieta and Garrett Richards are next in line tonight. Both Richards and Arrieta get home games tonight which result in negative park shifts for their opponents. Richards is nice value on FanDuel where he is a large -210 favorite to pick up those 4 points for the win. You could argue that Richards is the top overall play given the win probability tonight. Chris Tillman has similar upside in GPP tonight that we saw from Wei-Yin Chin with a large win probability.

Catcher Rankings

  • Yasmani Grandal
  • Matt Wieters
  • Robinson Chirinos
  • Salvador Perez

Catcher is fairly deep again tonight. Last night was frustrating with the late Grandal HR. Grandal was a total donkey play in cash games last night due to the price tag/lineup spot but it worked out for those who went that route. We obviously had him in tournaments but that’s a different story than cash games. When spending 3K or more on a catcher we really need him to hit 5th or higher in the lineup to justify the use of a player at the position in cash games. My thoughts on catcher are… Yasmani Grandal is the top play IF he is hitting top 5. If Grandal is 6th or lower then Matt Wieters is the top play (assuming he is hitting 5th). If neither Grandal or Wieters are hitting top 5 then Robinson Chirinos becomes the top play at his price tag.

1st Base Rankings

  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Chris Davis
  • Adrian Gonzalez
  • Prince Fielder
  • Justin Bour
  • Adam Lind

Miguel Cabrera ranks as the #1 1B and #1 overall hitter tonight in the RotoMinds model. The price tag is a little extreme but I love the matchup tonight. Miggy has a .445 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA tonight in this matchup. Chris Davis is next in line (if he is hitting 4th) against Jerome Williams at home in Baltimore. Davis has a very high 43% hard contact rate and a LD rate above 25%. Crush should have multiple RBI opportunities tonight against the Phillies. Adrian Gonzalez and the Dodgers were awful last night but I’m looking for them to bounce back a little tonight against Chi Chi Gonzalez. Chi Chi has been great in his brief MLB career. Tonight is the best test to date for Chi Chi.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Jimmy Paredes
  • Ian Kinsler
  • Howie Kendrick
  • Derek Dietrich

Jimmy Paredes is once again the top play… Call me crazy but we are headed back to the well again tonight with Jimmy Paredes as long as he continues to hit 2nd for the O’s against RHP. The team game script, price tag and lineup spot are just too good to pass up at the middle infield positions…. lock him in and move on in cash games. Ian Kinsler is next in line for those of you feeling contrarian in your cash games (not a terrible strategy but not what the #’s say to do all the time). Kinsler should benefit from the same situation as Jimmy Paredes, he will just cost a little more tonight.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Justin Turner
  • Kris Bryant
  • Todd Frazier
  • Manny Machado
  • Alex Rodriguez

Third Base is pretty deep tonight with several viable options that we want to have exposure to. Justin Turner is the best value assuming he is hitting in the top 5 of the order for the Dodgers tonight. Kris Bryant and Todd Frazier are the best tournament plays tonight due to their price points. Todd Frazier has big HR upside tonight and is a great play as part of a Reds mini stack. Manny Machado is really turning the page as the hitter this year for the O’s in the lead off spot. Machado is decent value tonight even at 3500 on FanDuel. Alex Rodriguez is always in play at his price even in a poor hitters park in Miami.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Jung-Ho Kang
  • Jordy Mercer
  • Elvis Andrus
  • Jose Iglesias
  • JJ Hardy

Jung-Ho Kang had a nice night for us last night against the southpaw and he gets another one tonight. Quintana is a little more experienced than Rodon but the matchup is still nice for the Pirates who hit LHP very well. Kang is actually cheaper tonight than he was last night. Also consider Elvis Andrus tonight whi should hit in the top 5 again tonight against Brett Anderson.

Outfield Rankings

Mike Trout is the clear cut top play overall in this slate but the price tag isn’t realistic with the top tier pitching options.

Outfield Tier 1:

Joc Pederson, Yasiel Puig, Andrew McCutchen, Kyle Blanks, Bryce Harper, Tyler Collins, Starling Marte, Adam Jones, Anthony Gose, Yoenis Cespedes

Outfield Tier 2:

Michael Cuddyer, Steve Pearce, Andre Ethier, Kole Calhoun, Christian Yelich, Denard Span, J.D. Martinez, Matt Joyce

Mike’s Top Four Team Stacks

Dodgers – Pederson, Puig, Gonzalez, Grandal

Orioles – Machado, Paredes, Jones, Davis, Riemold

Pirates – McCutchen, Marte, Kang, Harrison

Rangers – Fielder, Blanks, Chirinos

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
