Wednesday DFS MLB Plays

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. The write-up is going to be pretty short tonight because its very repetitive of the last few nights with very similar core target for us.

Pitching Rankings

  1. Chris Sale
  2. Corey Kluber
  3. Jon Lester
  4. James Shields
  5. Sonny Gray
  6. Cole Hamels
  7. Lance McCullers
  8. Hector Santiago

You could make an argument for any of the top 4 pitchers as the top play tonight. Chris Sale catches a break against a beat up Rangers team tonight. Sale is always in play due to his high strikeout potential against a lefty heavy lineup for the Rangers. Corey Kluber is another elite strikeout pitcher but draws a tough road matchup with the Royals. The Royals don’t hit for power but they do put the ball in play a lot which does limit the upside here. Jon Lester has to deal with a few lefty mashers but he gets a nice park shift in Miami. The Cubs bats should be able to provide a little run support tonight against Dan Haren. Sonny Gray has been great this year but draws a tough matchup with the Tigers and a negative park shift. James Shields is giving up a ridiculous number of homeruns this year for some reason but his strikeout numbers continue to climb in the national league. Shields is a strong play in all formats tonight.

Catcher Rankings

  • Yasmani Grandal
  • Yan Gomes
  • Russell Martin
  • Wilson Ramos
  • Nick Hundley

Yasmani Grandal is once again the top play and the guy you should be using in your cash games.

1st Base Rankings

  • Adrian Gonzalez
  • David Ortiz
  • Ben Paulsen
  • Adam LaRoche
  • Ryan Zimmerman

Adrian Gonzalez is the clear cut top play if he is in the lineup. AGON at Coors field against a bad pitcher… we don’t really need to say anything else. David Ortiz is next in line if he plays the 2nd half of the double header (he should). Ortiz is dirt cheap on FanDuel and deserves a look in all formats tonight against a very hittable pitcher for the Twins. If you’re not paying up for Gonzalez we recommend looking to Ben Paulsen for the Rockies. Paulsen hits RHP very well in his limit number of AB’s. Paulsen has elite power numbers and is obviously playing in the best hitting environment in baseball.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Howie Kendrick
  • Kike Hernandez
  • Danny Espinosa

2nd base is very obvious for us tonight… target whoever is playing 2B for the Dodgers at Coors Field. Hernandez and Howie are both great plays if they are in the lineup tonight. Hernandez ranks better in the model but does run the risk of being pinch hit for a little more than Howie does. Also consider Danny Espinosa tonight for the Nationals if you’re feeling contrarian.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Justin Turner
  • Pablo Sandoval
  • Kris Bryant
  • Josh Donaldson
  • Evan Longoria

Justin Turner is the top play at 3B again tonight. Same drill again today…. if Turner is in the lineup he should be in yours. Also consider Pablo Sandoval in a great individual and team matchup tonight. Kris Bryant has an awful park to play in but he still has HR upside against Dan Haren. Evan Longoria has struggled a bit this season but the warm weather on the west coast and a southpaw on the mound might be exactly what he needs to break out.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Troy Tulowitzki
  • Jimmy Rollins
  • Ian Desmond
  • Marcus Semien

Troy Tulowitzki ranks as the #1 play at SS tonight… Shocking!  Jimmy Rollins is next in line if he is in the Dodgers lineup. Rollins is a switch hitter who has 3 things working in his favor tonight… #1 Coors Field. #2 Platoon Advantage. #3 teammates with elite RotoMinds adjusted wOBA hitting around him. Also consider Ian Desmond (decent individual matchup and strong team matchup) and Marcus Semien in a nice positive park shift in Detroit.

Outfield Rankings

Joc Pederson is the clear cut top play and the #1 overall hitter in our model tonight. If he is in the lineup he needs to be in your lineup. Peterson has a ridiculous RotoMinds adjusted wOBA and even more ridiculous ISO numbers. This play is similar to Donaldson the other night… just lock him in and move on. (This was a copy and paste from last night… he hit a HR last night and just hit one in the first game of the double header)

Outfield Tier 1:

Andre Ethier, Carlos Gonzalez, Charlie Blackmon, Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Jose Bautista,

Outfield Tier 2:

Melky Cabrera, Adam Eaton, Josh Reddick, Mookie Betts, Adam Jones, Giancarlo Stanton, Will Venable

Mike’s Top Seven Team Stacks

Dodgers – Peterson, Gonzalez, Turner, Rollins

Rockies – Blackmon, Tulowitzki, Gonzalez, Paulsen

White Sox – Cabrera, Abreu, LaRoche, Eaton

Rays – Butler, Longoria, Souza, Forsythe

Red Sox – Ortiz, Sandoval, Betts, Ramirez

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
