Wednesday DFS MLB Plays

Wednesday DFS Plays

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. Today we have an unusually large early slate and a very short late slate with just 4 games. Today’s content will be for the early only slate and will be a little shorter due to time.

Pitching Rankings

  1. Felix Hernandez
  2. Gerrit Cole
  3. Noah Syndergaard
  4. Chris Archer
  5. Carlos Carrasco
  6. Michael Pineda

Short notes sections today due to time and not having all the lineups yet. Felix Hernandez is the clear cut top play despite pitching on the road. This is a good pitching environment for Felix. The only knock on Felix today is his team is facing another quality pitcher in Chris Archer which could make the win harder to come by. Gerrit Cole is next in line and on a different level than Hernandez (but improving) in terms of skill. However, the 4 points for the pitcher win on FanDuel are huge for a pitchers value on a given day. I think Cole represents a slightly higher win probability which makes him a great play in all formats as well. We like Syndergaard on multiple pitcher sites.

Catcher Rankings

  • Buster Posey
  • Carlos Santana (catcher eligible on DK)
  • Roberto Perez
  • Brian McCann

Buster Posey is the top play with his positive park shift at Miller Park. Posey is reserved for tournaments only for us with his price tag. If you have the cap space in cash games I won’t argue with you. Carlos Santana has catcher eligibility on DraftKings and makes a fine choice in all formats on this early slate. Also consider our favorite punt catcher Roberto Perez who is in the lineup today while Yan Gomes gets the day off.

1st Base Rankings

  • Joey Votto
  • Lucas Duda
  • Jose Abreu
  • David Ortiz
  • Adam Lind

Multiple viable options at 1B here. Joey Votto is the safest player on the list but a few others offer some big upside today. The model really loves Lucas Duda… or hates O’Sullivan.. I’m not sure which. Duda ia a great play that I think will be overlooked today. Jose Abreu rewarded us with a HR last night and seems to finally be coming back to the player we know he can be. Also consider Adam Lind against Ryan Vogelsong in a great hitters park.

2nd Base Rankings

  • Jason Kipnis
  • Daniel Murphy
  • Dustin Pedroia
  • Neil Walker (we usually only target walker when hitting left-handed but he is okay here hitting right)

Jason Kipnis is the clear cut top play at 2B where the gap is large between him and the “next in  line” guy. Kipnis is a great play in all formats and is worth spending up for in this matchup. After Kipnis we will want to pick on Sean O’Sullivan some more with lefty bats and Daniel Murphy is the next lefty bat we can use. The Mets should have a nice afternoon at the plate.

3rd Base Rankings

  • Josh Harrison
  • Lonnie Chisenhall (highlighted if top 5)
  • Todd Frazier
  • Pablo Sandoval

What a night Josh Donaldson had for us last night! Today another Josh is the top play at 3B… Josh Harrison for the Pirates. The Pirates get a juicy matchup with Brad Hand. Hand has been solid vs lefties and awful vs righties with some of the most extreme splits in baseball. Harrison and Chisenhall are both nice sources of salary relief so you can spend on Kipnis and your pitching. Todd Frazier is another top play with HR upside today. I prefer to spend on some of the other positions today so Frazier isn’t necessarily a core target today.

ShortStop Rankings

  • Troy Tulowtizki
  • Jung-Ho Kang
  • Jose Reyes
  • Jordy Mercer (if top 6)

Troy Tulowtizki is once again the top play that we have very little interest in using outside of tournaments but we still have to mention him. Jung-Ho Kang had a great night for us in our tournaments last night and gets another great matchup today. I’m interested to see who gets the start today since Kang, Mercer and Rodriguez all hit LHP very well. Whoever the Pirates have at SS (DFS positions) is a fine play in all formats if they are hitting in the top 6 of the order. Also consider Jose Reyes who gets to hit from the left side of the plate today.

Outfield Rankings

Top Plays – Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte and Michael Brantley are all ranked in the top tier and make great plays in all formats. The Pirates are a very frustrating team but they rank very well in the model today. Remember you can always download the hitting data to see where all of this comes from. We won’t have much of a write-up today due to time.

Other OF players to target:

Brandon Moss, David Murphy, Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez, Shin-Soo Choo, Jose Bautista, Michael Cuddyer, Carlos Gomez, Ryan Braun, Jay Bruce, Brett Gardner.

Team Stacks

Indians – Kipnis, Brantley, Santana, Chisenhall, Perez

Pirates – McCutchen, Harrison, Marte, Kang

Yankees – Gardner, Rodriguez, McCann, Teixeira

Reds – Votto, Frazier, Bruce, Hamilton

Good luck!

Be sure to use the our optimal lineups when they are posted later this afternoon.
