Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of RotoMinds Daily MLB Plays. 14 game slate tonight with a huge $300,000 tournament on Draftkings where the winner will walk away with $100,000.
- Tyson Ross
- Jake Odorizzi
- Carlos Martinez
- Carlos Rodon
- Jordan Zimmermann
- Tsuyoshi Wada
- Chase Anderson
- David Phelps
- Brett Anderson
- Drew Hutchison
Starting pitching is quite disgusting tonight. Tyson Ross is the clear cut top play in projection due to his high K upside against the Cubs in a great park. The weather patterns in Southern California this year have made Petco a little more of a neutral park thus far but its still one of the better parks to pitch in. I will admit that my confidence level in Tyson Ross is nowhere near that of James Shields last night. Full disclosure here…. I will be stacking the Cubs in multiple entries on DraftKings tonight no matter how much Tyson Ross we have in cash games. Next in line is Jake Odorizzi… Odorizzi is another guy that is similar to Ross in that they have nice upside but he can also totally lose command and get rocked in one inning. After these top two pitchers there is a pretty large drop off tonight. Carlos Martinez and Carlos Rodon are both in okay spots and have some upside on this odd slate with 14 games with limited top tier pitching options.
- Derek Norris
- Buster Posey
- Francisco Cervelli
- Brayan Pena
- Wilin Rosario
- Nick Hundley
Derek Norris ranks as the #1 catcher with a .442 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA tonight against Wada. Norris has crushed LHP in his career and has even better numbers this season. What’s more impressive are his numbers with RISP and 2 outs with RISP. Norris is a great play in all formats tonight with his modest price tag on both sites. Buster Posey is an elite hitter vs LHP and makes a great play in tournaments tonight when the crowd will likely be on Norris and the Colorado game for the catcher position. Also consider: Wilin Rosario, Nick Hundley and don’t sleep on Brayan Pena against Guthrie.
1st Base Rankings
- David Ortiz
- Joey Votto
- Adam Lind
- Lucas Duda
- Eric Hosmer
- Jose Abreu
David Ortiz is the top play at 1B tonight on FanDuel where he is just 2900. Ortiz is an elite hitter with a ton of power against RHP. Tonight Ortiz is back at Fenway against a very average/below average pitcher. Ortiz matches up well here in pitch profiles, park factor, weather, platoon splits, everything. So naturally he will go 0-4… okay just kidding. Ortiz is going to hit a HR or walk 3 times as the opposing team pitches around him. Yes, I just copy and pasted from yesterday… Big Papi is a great play once again. Like most days, we have 6-8 really strong plays at 1B. Joey Votto and Eric Hosmer will both be overlooked tonight due to the ballpark and the elite matchup for guys like Ortiz. Jose Abreu draws a favorable matchup and has as much upside as any hitter playing tonight so feel free to use him in your tournaments.
2nd Base Rankings
- Neil Walker
- Chase Utley
- Brian Dozier
- Rickie Weeks
- Jimmy Paredes
We don’t really have a top play at 2B tonight but there are several guys that rank similarly in good matchups. For cash games we are most likely to target guys like Chase Utley (huge positive park shift at Coors), Neil Walker and Brian Dozier. Dozier hits LHP very well and hit a HR vs Liriano last night. Locke is a much easier matchup than Liriano and the Twins team was built to hit LHP. Rickie Weeks is leading off for Seattle tonight and makes a great tournament option against a LHP in a positive park shift. The only problem with weeks is you can almost guarantee he will be pinch hit for as soon as a RHP is brought into the game. You might get 3 AB here if you’re lucky.
3rd Base Rankings
- Nolan Arenado
- Adrian Beltre
- Mike Moustakas
- Miakel Franco
Nolan Arenado is the top play at 3B tonight if the weather in Colorado clears up. I don’t think Arenado is in the must play category tonight due to a few other players offering much better value at their prices. Mike Moustakas (hitting 2nd) is way too cheap on FanDuel and he matches up extremely well with the pitch profiles or Marquis and lets be honest… Marquis is just not a major league pitcher. Miakel Franco is another great play and a nice way to get exposure to Coors field tonight. I like Adrian Beltre quite a bit in tournaments tonight if you’re playing multiple entries. Also consider Brock Holt in your Red Sox stacks.
- Troy Tulowitzki
- Ian Desmond
- Erick Aybar
- Danny Santana
Tulowitzki is the top play once again in projection. Ian Desmond receives a nice boost if hitting 2nd again tonight. Tonight we have several viable SS options hitting near the top of the order. Erick Aybar is a viable play again tonight if hitting in the top 5 in the order like we expect. Danny Santana ranks very well tonight if he is leading off. His value largely depends on the lineup spot tonight.
- Nelson Cruz, Giancarlo Stanton, Justin Upton, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper
- Carlos Gonzalez, Charlie Blackmon, Hanley Ramirez
- Adam Jones, Steve Perace, Matt Kemp, Kevin Kiermaier
- Ben Rever, Grady Sizemore, Daniel Nava, Joc Pederson, Justin Ruggiano
- Alex Gordon, Gregory Polanco, Jose Bautista, Kole Calhoun, Mookie Betts
Nelson Cruz earns the top spot with a .444 RotoMinds adjusted wOBA tonight. Cruz gets a nice park shift in a park that he is familiar with. I love Nelson Cruz again tonight against the LHP. Justin Upton (hot streaks are real with Justin Upton and facing a LHP), Giancarlo Stanton (touched on him yesterday with the hard hit balls) and Mike Trout are all top plays tonight and can be used in all formats tonight.
Carlos Gonzalez will basically be locked in to our FanDuel cash games at his price tag. The model likes Cargo (and most hitters at Coors). Cargo is finally looking healthy again and he gets a nice matchup with a pitcher he has absolutely owned in his past (Aaron Harang). Gonzalez is a great way to get exposure at Coors without stacking the team. This was once again a repeat from Tuesday… love Cargo as a way to get Coors exposure.
All of the highlighted OF options are in play tonight. I like Polanco again in GPP despite his 0-19 cold steak he is on. Focus on the Phillies, Orioles, Rockies and Red Sox for your filler plays in your multiple entries.
Rockies – Gonzalez, Arenado, Rosario, Blackmon
Orioles – Jones, Machado, Pearce, Paredes
Phillies – Utley, Rever, Miakel Franco, Sizemore
Red Sox – Ortiz, Pedroia, Ramirez, Holt
Royals – Moustakas, Hosmer, Gordon, Infante
Pirates – Polanco, Walker, Alvarez, McCutchen
Padres – Upton, Norris, Kemp
Mariners – Cruz, Weeks, Ruggiano, Zunino
